Partiendo desde los inicios de la historia del cine hasta el siglo XXI, he hecho un listado recopilando las 500 mejores películas de todos los tiempos. La clasificación incluye tanto películas de cine arte como de corte comercial exhibidas en Hollywood, así como muchos filmes ausentes en la controversial lista publicada por la revista estadounidense Empire y grandes directores como Akira Kurosawa, Francis Ford Coppola, Kenji Mizoguchi, Raoul Walsh, Ingmar Bergman, D.W. Griffith, Orson Welles, Luis Buñuel, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Carl Theodore Dreyer, Steven Spielberg, Andrei Tarkovsky, G.W Pabst, Abbas Kiarostami, Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, entre otros. La lista se actualizará periódicamente con el paso de los años a medida que ingresen nuevas películas con tal de formar una distribución equilibrada entre el cine clásico y el cine contemporáneo.
Advierto de antemano que esta lista no es el producto de una votación colectiva ni de una verdad absoluta ni de la unanimidad de un grupo determinado ni mucho menos de un experimento objetivo. Se trata, más bien, de una lista compuesta por mis criterios personales y mi sistema de calificación de películas, aunque el título puede sonar un poco "objetivo" por mis compromisos con el SEO. He intentado colocar mis películas preferidas de ciertos años, aunque admito que siempre es difícil tratar de mantener un equilibrio que refleje los gustos personales, pues como dicen, cada quien tiene sus criterios.
Desafortunadamente solo ingresan las películas que califico con mayor grado, basándome, por supuesto, en mi sistema de calificación personal. Pura subjetividad. Intento además mezclar películas de diversos géneros y épocas principalmente para desmantelar esa narrativa discriminatoria de los tontos cinéfilos que por culpa de las trampas de la objetividad segregan el cine arte y el cine de entretenimiento, como si el arte cinematográfico consta de un muro gigantesco que impide cruzar de un lado para otro. Un prejuicio tonto. El cine no tiene divisiones. Es cine. Y eso es, en cierta medida, lo que intento reflejar en esta lista de las que considero como las 500 mejores películas que he visto: una convivencia entre el cine arte y el cine de entretenimiento de distintos períodos.
